Rustad makes it a double in Norway
Tommy Rustad was unstoppable at his home race in Norway – taking two victories and 20 points! The Norwegian fought his way from eight on the grid to first over the finish line.
“This was exactly what I needed! I am so happy right now,” said Rustad after the race.
Pole man Pontus Mörth held the lead very briefly in the beginning of the race. The first man to get past Möth was Robin Rudholm. The WestCoast Racing driver held the lead for a couple of laps before getting past by Rustad.
“I needed the points and Rustad was quicker. I drove for the championship and I am pleased with this result,” said Rudholm.
Championship leader Thed Björk took yet another podium finish after fighting his way past Johan Stureson for third on the penultimate lap.
“What a race! I am still full of adrenaline and so happy over securing another podium,” said Björk.
Stureson lost another place on the last lap when Volvo driver Robert Dahlgren passed him with a firm maneuver in the chicane. Dahlgren started last after his race one incident with Richard Göransson.
While Dahlgren finished fifth, Göransson had yet another race with zero points. Göransson was right in the thick of the fight for third place and sustained a puncture after scrubbing paint with a couple of cars.
The reigning champion had to pit for new tyres and was unable to get back in to the race.
The same scrap for position resulted in a safety car session as Tomas Engström stranded his Honda Accord in a dangerous place. Engström got hit by Mattias Andersson and the marshals had a hard time to remove the Honda from the gravel trap.
Fredrik Ekblom made a fine drive from the back of the field to finish sixth ahead of Jan “Flash” Nilsson. Mörth fell back to eight from his pole position, ahead of leading privateers Dick Sahlén and Viktor Huggare.
