Giovanardi versus Turkington

The British Touring Car Championship season of 2009 is nearing the its end. Only two race weekends remain, Rockingham and Brands Hatch, but defending champion Fabrizio Giovanardi is not taking anything for certain.
“It’s getting very close to the end of the season, but we still have six races left, so there is nothing for certain,” said Giovanardi.

Giovanardi’s main rival for the title, Colin Turkington, does also think that the decider for the title is still a time away.

“I don’t expect the title to be decided until race three at Brands Hatch two weeks later,” said Turkington to BTCC.net.

Giovanardi lost two points to Turkington during the last race at Silverstone, something the Italian does not want to repeat.

“But, I’m only here to win, so that’s what I have to do. Rockingham is always fast, produces good races and I just need it all to go my way, not like at Silverstone,” said Giovanardi.

Turkington is not aiming to take race victories, but rather to keep ahead of his title rivals.

“Winning races is always great but at this stage it’s not essential… my main goal now has to be to finish ahead of Fabrizio and Jason,” said Turkington.
