Volvo condemns the penalties

Volvo has in a press release condemned the penalties issued by the Swedish Touring Car Championship organization after the incident between Thed Björk and Robert Dahlgren.
“We are very upset over the decisions. We are not working with such orders to our drivers. The debate over team orders belong to the media strategy of STCC AB and not the racing strategy of Volvo,” said Derek Crabb, Motorsport Director of Volvo.

Dahlgren received the hardest penalty ever issued by STCC AB after the incident: Minus 10 points in the drivers championship.

“It is not only that we are losing points, but in front of all, the consequences of the wrong decision by the judgers that we are pointed out as being unsporting,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Commercial Director of Volvo Motorsport Sweden.

The press release further states that Volvo are going to file a protest against the decision.

“The irritation within Volvo has grown gradually during the season. The decision and after play from this weekend was the straw that broke the camel’s back, but are only a few of many inconsequent acts and decisions from the race directors of STCC AB. Volvo are because of this going to take the issue on to Riksidrottsnämnden (the final authority for protests).”

The other team involved in the incident, Flash Engineering, has gone the other way compared to Volvo and retracted their initial protest against the Volvo team.

“After consideration with our team boss Johan Kvick we have decided to retract our protest. We have chosen to, unless it is a very obvious breach of the rules, to not file protest, but let the judgers do their work,” said Jan “Flash” Nilsson in a press release.
