The STCC finale is here!
The Swedish Touring Car Championship is going to be decided on saturday. Just one race weekend, at Mantorp Park, is left and we have intense action ahead of us. All eyes are on the title fight between Thed Björk and Tommy Rustad.
“I have been in the lead for almost the entire season. That is not going to be changed by either the final race of the year or Rustad,” said Björk.
Norwegian Volvo driver Rustad is nine points behind Björk with 20 points still left to be fought over.
“It is going to be tough at Mantorp and I am going to give everything and win both heats,” said Rustad.
Both WestCoast Racing drivers Richard Göransson and Robin Rudholm have a theoretical chance of taking the title. But that requires that one of them wins both races and that the drivers ahead of them score almost nothing.
“The possibility is I guess not realistic. But it is there and as long as it is there, I am going to give everything,” said Robin Rudholm of WestCoast Racing.
The other interesting fight is the one for the team championship. Top teams Flash Engineering, WestCoast Racing and Polestar Racing are separated with 15 points and there are 26 points left.
“We have a good team and the team championship is my main focus. Both I and Göransson have good chances at Mantorp,” said Rudholm.
Last time the STCC visited Mantorp, the Volvo team took a 1-2 in the first race, something they want again.
“We are aiming for a double victory in both heats to win both the drivers and team championship,” said Christian Dahl, Polestar Racing team boss.
Flash Engineering have lead the team championship for the majority of the race and are, as the other two teams, looking to take the team trophy home.
“We are going to take the titles. I would rather ride the ambulance after the race than coming in second,” said Jan “Flash” Nilsson.
