Who is going to be crowned champion?
With less than 24 hours left until the grande finale of the Swedish Touring Car Championship, tension is running high.
“This season belongs to me and Flash Engineering. Rustad is not going to get past me,” said championship leader Thed Björk.
Tommy Rustad is Björk’s title challenger and the Norwegian is aiming to get past tomorrow.
“There is a lot of prestige and people do anything to win. Björk is not going to get anything for free,” said Rustad to the official championship site.
The real spark for the extra intense fight between the two came at Knutstorp when Rustad’s team mate Robert Dahlgren crashed in to Björk with just one and a half lap left of the race.
Dahlgren was penalized with minus ten points in the championship, the toughest penalty in the history of STCC. Despite that the move by Dahlgren stopped Björk from getting a 19 point advantage from Rustad (20 points left), the Norwegian confirms that it was not team orders.
“There has never been a team order to take out Björk. In my eyes Dahlgren’s attempt was over eager. But if Björk had been a bit more observant he could have avoided it,” said Rustad.
If Rustad manages to beat Björk tomorrow, the Flash Engineering driver is not going to take it lightly.
“I am going to win. And this is just not about me, we have just as much focus on the team championship,” said Björk.
Rustad on the other hand is confident that he is going to be championship winning quick tomorrow.
“We have a fast car that suit Mantorp well. But I have more pressure on me and I have to win the first race. You could say that I have more hope than expectations,” said Rustad.
