Important win for Tommy Rustad
Tommy Rustad took an important victory in the first race at Mantorp, reducing the gap to Thed Björk to four points. But the Norwegian almost lost the lead in the final corner.
“Wonderful! It was a bit too close in the end, I focused too much on driving defensively,” said Rustad.
Pole man Robin Rudholm finished second, the WestCoast Racing driver was passed by Rustad at the very beginning of the race and was unable to respond.
“I was a bit surprised by the pace of Rustad in the race. But the race was good and we have taken the team championship lead,” said Rudholm.
Richard Göransson managed to pass Björk in the first corner and finished third.
“I am rather pleased, but I think we got the tyre pressure wrong as my tyres started to over heat in the end and Björk got close,” said Göransson.
Björk did get really close towards the end of the race. But he lost ground as he had to defend from a charging Robert Dahlgren. Björk was able to stay ahead of Dahlgren despite that the two final laps were filled with overtaking attempts from Dahlgren.
“I was faster than Göransson, but could not get past when Dahlgren started to attack me from behind. But I have four points still left of the lead and I am more than ready for the fight in the second race,” said Björk.
Mattias Andersson secured sixth behind Dahlgren and Pontus Mörth took seventh.
Tomas Engström took eight and is going to start from pole position in the final race of the year.
Things are going to be more than exciting in the final race. Rustad and Björk are going to fight furiously for the drivers title. Björk is going to start fifth and Rustad eight. Not to forget is that Rustad has got Björk’s team mate Jan “Flash” Nilsson, who finished ninth today, right along side him in the second race.
The fight is also on for the team championship. WestCoast Racing has taken over the lead with four points ahead of Flash Engineering.
Stay tuned for the second race!
