Changed rules for turbo engines

The regulations for the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2010 is going to be released today. One of the changes is extended “life length” for turbo engines.
“A turbo engine does not have the same degree of wear (compared to an N/A engine) and must last at least four races,” said technical director Johnny Haraldsson.

The naturally aspirated engines must last for at least two race weekends. If the engine breaks and has to be changed before that period, a penalty is issued of being moved ten positions on the grid.

The reason for this is to keep the costs down and force the manufacturers/teams to produce engines that last longer.

Team Biogas.se made their debut last season with the turbo charged Volkswagen Scirocco that runs on bio gas. That engine was included in the same engine length regulations last year as the N/A engines, something that has changed for the 2010 season.
