No Peugeot 308 RCZ for IPS Motorsport

IPS Motorsport has been denied by the Swedish Touring Car Championship organization to build a Peugeot 308 RCZ.
“We have completed measurements and we can establish that the car does not meet the criteria to be approved,” said STCC technical director Johnny Haraldsson to STCC.se.

“It is the inside measurements of the coupé that are critical and does not meet the FIA criteria for a four seater.

You could compare the back seat with the ones of a Porsche 911 or a Audi TT and those types of cars are never going to be approved for Group A,” said Haraldsson.

This decision means that Peugeot Sweden is not going to back the 2010 programme for IPS Motorsport, according to the team.

“It feels a bit tough that the dispensation did not go through as Peugeot wanted to compete with that model and it was a chance for us to get a good budget. Instead we have to hunt other sponsors and see how far it takes us,” said Stureson.

The team could change manufacturer for the coming season, perhaps to BMW.

“It is too early to comment yet. Either we continue with the Peugeot 308 that we have or we’ll get another car.

The one closest in that case is a BMW, it is possible to buy a complete and competitive BMW that is easy to run as well,” said Stureson.
