Tommy Rustad voted best STCC driver
Newly crowned Swedish Touring Car Championship champion Tommy Rustad has received yet another title: The TouringCarTimes STCC-driver of the year 2009.
“This is a confirmation of that I am a worthy champion of STCC 2009,” said Rustad to TouringCarTimes.com.
The Norwegian received 33,2 percent of the votes from the readers of TouringCarTimes.com, beating rival driver Thed Björk with 9,6%.
But Rustad is far from satisfied and is hungry for more ahead of the 2010 season.
“I am very proud to have won STCC for Volvo, but I know that you do not win STCC 2010 on last year’s results. We are working hard to develop the C30 and I am ready to defend my title,” said Rustad.
The Volvo team Polestar Racing, that Rustad drives for, took a clean sweep in the STCC with both the drivers and team title.
The same goes for the TouringCarTimes STCC Awards where they clinch the Best Manufacturer and Best Team Award. The team took a whooping 41,6% of the votes for the best team, beating Flash Engineering with 13,9%.
“We are very happy and proud over this award. The information that we won the award came as we arrived in Spain to for the first test ahead of 2010 where we hope to improve our Volvo C30 to meet the ever increasing competition,” said team boss Christian Dahl.
Privateer Johan Kristoffersson took both titles Best Privateer and Best Rookie of STCC 2009. Interestingly enough he beat the STCC 2009 independents champion Viktor Hallrup with 17,1% in the Best Privateer category.
