STCC adopts WTCC point system [Updated]

The Swedish Touring Car Championship follows the recent change of point system in the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
“This makes the victories more worth and I think that is good for the sport,” said reigning champion Tommy Rustad to the official championship site.

“I think we are going to see even harder fights to step on top of the podium in each race this year,” said Rustad.

The new point scale awards the top ten drivers in each race, instead of the top eight, as in the old system.

This point system has been adopted not only by the WTCC, but also Formula One and WRC.

1st 25 points
2nd 18 points
3rd 15 points
4th 12 points
5th 10 points
6th 8 points
7th 6 points
8th 4 points
9th 2 points
10th 1 points

The top ten of the championship 2009 would not have looked any different if the new point system had been unsed then. The only difference would have been the points gap between the drivers.
