Stureson abandons Peugeot for BMW
Johan Stureson has decided to switch to BMW after racing Peugeot for the last six year in the Swedish Touring Car Championship.
“Peugeot did not want to be in the project and for us it is not interesting to keep driving with a car that we are alone on developing,” said Stureson to Kristiandstadsbladet.
IPS Motorsport wanted to run the new Peugeot 308 RCZ but did not get dispensation from the STCC AB to run it as it did not conform with the S2000 rules.
“As we did not get dispensation from STCC to run it, there was not much more to do,” said Stureson.
The team has instead acquired a BMW 320si E90 from a Danish team, for Stureson to compete with in the STCC 2010.
“It is a car that has been in it for a while and is ready. Simplified you could say that you can buy it over the counter and then head on to race,” said Stureson.
Stureson has got high hopes and is confident that the new car is going to be competitive.
“It is a competitive car that is going to be in the top, but at the same time you need to remember that it is new for both me and the team. You cannot expect top results to just come by them selves,” said Stureson.
