Kane tops morning testing at Brands Hatch
Motorbase Performance have topped the time sheets in the morning test session at the Brands Hatch Media launch event, with Steven Kane fastest, returning to the team after one year.
TouringCarTimes spoke to Steven ahead of the session about their ambitions for this year:
“I think we’ve got a chance – we should be going for the championship and that’s what we believe we can do – so we just have to see how we go out today and
maybe at the first race and see where we’re going to head for the rest of the year”
“David worked very hard over the winter, and gave me a call to come and drive the car this year so, we’re going to try and win the championship”.
Responding to the threat of the two manufacturer entrants, Steven said:
“That’s going to be the the thing to see how today goes, and see where Matt ends up with the Honda and obviously Chevrolet’s very very strong by the look of it, and also Chilton’s team, Aon, with the gas cars”.
Despite one season out of the BTCC, Kane’s been busy in 2009:
“I was employed last year with Jonathan Palmer in the Formula Two Championship and Williams F1, it was great to do that because it was back in the single seaters where I originally started and it was a development programme of the car, and there was a lot of testing, going to the race weekends, it was a lot of miles in the car and it’s kept me there”.
Tom Chilton was second fastest in the LPG powered Ford Focus, with Gordon Shedden third back with Team Dynamics in the Honda Civic.
Jason Plato failed to set a time after a steering arm broke in his Chevrolet Cruze, and will run in the afternoon session only.
