Volvo and BMW head weight list for Knutstorp

The weights have been set for the Swedish Touring Car Championship at Knutstorp next weekend. The BMW 320si E90 tops the list with 1210 kilos, some 11 kilos more than the second heaviest car – the Volvo C30.

STCC changed penalty weight system for this season to the system used in the World Touring Car Championship.

Instead of individual driver penalty weight, now an average laptime of each car model is calculated and the weight is awarded to individual car models, independent of drivers and teams.

The Volvo C30 was fastest during the STCC premiere at Jyllandsringen, with the BMW 320si E90 following closely, just 0.106 seconds behind on average.

After that there is a big gap to the next model. The Alfa Romeo 156 of Mattias Andersson was third fastest, 1.081 seconds behind.

With the remaining cars so far behind the Volvo and the BMW, it means that the C30 and the 320si is going to get +40 kilos for the Knutstorp race while all of the other cars get -20 kilos.

Details

A total of ten parameters are used for each car model in the calculation of time differences between the car models:

1 – Fastest laptime in qualifying
2 – Second car’s fastest laptime in qualifying
3 – Fastest laptime in the first race
4 – Second fastest laptime in the first race
5 – Second fastest car’s fastest laptime in the first race
6 – Second fastest car’s second fastest laptime in the first race
7 – Fastest laptime in the second race
8 – Second fastest laptime in the second race
9 – Second fastest car’s fastest laptime in the second race
10 – Second fastest car’s second fastest laptime in the second race

If a car model is only represented with one driver, parameters 2, 5, 6, 9 and 10 are not used.

The difference value produced by this calculation then sets the weights for each individual car model. A maximum of 40 kilos can be added and a maximum of 20 kilos can be subtracted.
