Jackson wins ahead of a storming Neal
Matt Jackson won the third and final British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Brands Hatch. Matt Neal finished second after storming up through the field on a drying track with slicks mounted on his Honda Civic.
Tom Boardman led the race at the start. But it was not long until both Airwaves BMW-cars of Jackson and Steven Kane got past.
Jackson managed to pass them both in just two corners, going up to a lead that he kept over the finish line.
The safety car was out twice during the race. The second session was held because of the stranded Chevrolet of Alex MacDowall. Tom Chilton made a move on MacDowall in the first corner, the both made contact, sending MacDowall in to the gravel with a broken rear suspension.
Moments later Dave Pinkney outbraked him self, stranding the NGTC powered Vauxhall Vectra in the gravel trap. The racing resumed with just four laps left when the two cars had been cleared.
Honda Racing driver Neal was storming up through the field in the closing stages of the race. As the safety car got in, Neal got past Boardman and James Nash quickly.
With just two laps left, Neal easily past Collard and had his sights set for Kane and second place. And with just three corners left of the race, Neal managed to squeeze past Kane on almost the same place as Collard a lap before.
Neal’s championship rival Jason Plato retired on the first lap, reporting via radio to his team that he had “no power” in his Chevrolet Cruze.
