Ekblom optimistic about title chances
Triple Swedish Touring Car Championship champion Fredrik Ekblom snatched a win at Karlskoga last weekend, his first since july 2008.
“Many have congratulated me and it if of course very nice and appreciated. But I think it is especially nice for the mechanics of the team and for E.ON and Volkswagen who started this project,” said Ekblom.
The victory was the first ever for E.ON and Volkswagen in the STCC as well as the first ever bio-gas victory.
“To be able to win with biogas as first team ever in STCC in competition with other fuels is big, very big,” said Ekblom.
E.ON and Volkswagen introduced their STCC programme last year and it has been hard work ever since, with, among other things, switching teams from Brovallen Motorsport to Kristoffersson Motorsport ahead of this season.
“But I am not that surprised that our first victory came this soon. Already during the spring testings we showed with our developed cars of last year that we have taken a big step forward for this season,” said Ekblom.
Ekblom is currently third in the championship and is optimistic about his title chances.
“Ever since my first day at Team Biogas.se the goal has been to win STCC. That goal has never changed. Then we will have to see if it happens this year or the next,” said Ekblom.
