STCC AB hits back at Volvo criticism

Volvo expressed severe criticism towards the regulations set by STCC AB for the bio-gas powered Volkswagen Scirocco.
“Dahl’s (Volvo team boss) statement surprises me. If Volvo and Polestar Racing consider it an advantage to run bio-gas, they are free to do it,” said STCC MD Bob Huzell.

“Their green image would be improved, but they would not get any sporting advantages,” said Huzell.

STCC AB state that they have an “aggressive” environmental policy, something that has been in favour for Volvo, according to Huzell.

“In the same way that we made it possible to use bio-gas, we made it possible for Polestar Racing and Volvo to use bio-ethanol in 2007. Then, just as now, we have always worked with the principle to create as fair conditions as possible for the teams,” said Huzell.

Volvo Polestar Racing team boss Dahl meant, according to STCC, that STCC has acted according to political considerations with the rules.

“We are of course dependent of that we have competitors in the championship. But we are dependent of all competitors, not just one or a couple. That is why we cannot favor only one competitor,” said Huzell.
