The heat turns up in STCC at Falkenberg
The Swedish Touring Car Championship heads to the fastest track in Sweden this weekend. The fight for the championship has turned out to be a three-way duel between current leader Robert Dahlgren of Volvo, second placed Richard Göransson of BMW and third placed Fredrik Ekblom of Volkswagen.
The weights have changed a bit for one of the front runners. The bio-gas powered Volkswagen Scirocco has increased from 1170 kilos to 1210 kilos due to the much improved pace.
With warm weather predicted, 25-30 degrees celcius, for the weekend, things could play in the hands of Göransson with the rear wheel driven BMW that wears less on the tyres compared to the front wheel driven Volvo’s and Volkswagen’s.
Dahlgren currently leads the championship 11 points ahead of Göransson. Ekblom is a further 10 points behind. And Ekblom is set to debut the new S2000 specification Volkswagen Scirocco this weekend, a car that has got new aerodynamics, improved suspension and chassis.
But the top three drivers are not going to be alone in the fight for victories this weekend. Mattias Andersson ought to be quick on the fast Falkenberg track, just as the two Flash Engineering-drivers Jan “Flash” Nilsson and Thed Björk that are urging to get revenge for their dreadful season start.
The weekend pre-starts with a test day tomorrow, followed by qualifying and two races on saturday.
