MacDowall takes first BTCC pole for Cruze
Alex MacDowall has taken pole position at a wet Snetterton ahead of team mate Jason Plato for Silverline Chevrolet. Tom Chilton will start third.
MacDowall also becomes the youngest driver to take a pole position in the British Touring Car Championship.
Rain fell just before the session start, forcing the grid to take to the track on wets. Plato held pole for the first part of the session, then Tom Chilton broke ahead in the Team Aon Focus, before the two Chevrolet’s moved ahead in the final ten minutes of the session as the rain continued to fall.
Team Aon had a mixed result, Tom Onslow-Cole, fourth in the championship failed the ride hide test and had all his session times deleted and will start race one from last place.
Mat Jackson was the top BMW, whilst the Honda’s, struggling in the dry, were able to take advantage of the conditions and qualified 5th and 7th, with Shedden ahead of Matt Neal.
