Ekblom heads Volkswagen 1-2 at Karlskoga

Fredrik Ekblom secured the first ever Volkswagen 1-2 in the Swedish Touring Car Championship.
“The day has been perfect so far. I am really pleased and all the hard work with the car is starting to pay off now,” said Ekblom.

His team mate, Patrik Olsson, secured second, but only just. Thed Björk made a strong drive from sixth on the grid to secure third, just half a second behind Olsson.
“I enjoyed this race, but I wished there was more laps,” said Björk.

Björk got past championship leader Robert Dahlgren early in the race when the Volvo driver made a mistake in the hairpin. Dahlgren had to settle for fourth with a charging Richard Göransson behind him in fifth.

Göransson lost some time in the start of the race after getting involved in an incident with, among others, Viktor Hallrup and Jan “Flash” Nilsson, who had to retire with a broken steering rod.

After that Göransson started to gain on Dahlgren, but there was not enough laps and the WestCoast Racing driver had to settle for fifth and see his championship rival pull away in the championship.

Mattias Andersson crossed the line as sixth ahead Viktor Hallrup. Dick Sahlén emerged victorious in the fight for eight, the position that gives pole position for the second race.

Johan Stureson and Tommy Rustad fought hard but had to settle for ninth and tenth respectively.
