Magnussen fastest in record close first qualifying

Jan Magnussen was fastest in a record close first qualifying session ahead of the Scandinavian Touring Car Cup races at Jyllandsringen. Top five was covered in just eight hundredths of a second.

Tommy Rustad was second fastest, 0.021 seconds behind Magnussen, with STCC championship leader Richard Göransson in third, a further 0.017 seconds behind.

James Thompson was initially fastest of the session, but had his times disallowed twice after failing a ride height control and driving over floppies on the track. Thompson ended up in fourth, just seven thousands of a second ahead of Robert Dahlgren.

Casper Elgard claimed fifth ahead of Jens Reno Møller, who topped the previous practice session, and Fredrik Ekblom.

Jason Watt and Thed Björk rounded off top ten, with Björk also being one of the drivers having his fastest time disallowed.

A total of 16 drivers were within eight tenths of a second. Top eight of this session moves on to the second qualifying session, Q2, scheduled for tomorrow at 12.15 CET.
