Ekblom on pole in close qualifying at Knutstorp

Fredrik Ekblom claimed pole position for the final Scandinavian race of the year and the penultimate race of the Swedish Championship. The two Volvo-drivers followed closely in second and third, just two thousands of a second apart.

Thed Björk was best BMW-driver in fourth, one tenth slower than Ekblom. Mattias Andersson claimed fifth ahead of best Danish driver Jan Magnussen in sixth.

Jan “Flash” Nilsson was seventh fastest ahead of Patrik Olsson. Viktor Hallrup was first driver outside Q2 ahead of STCC championship leader Richard Göransson.

There was drama in the first qualifying session, Q1, as Casper Elgaard and Andreas Ebbesson crashed in the pits. Elgaard’s team positioned Elgaard’s car in a wrong way in the pits, hitting Ebbesson as he was passing in the fastlane.

Ebbesson was able to continue with a puncture while Elgaard was unable to take part further in the qualifying session due to damage to the front of his BMW 320si.
