Ekblom wins as Göransson crashes at Knutstorp

Fredrik Ekblom won the first Swedish Touring Car Championship race at Knutstorp. The Volkswagen-man took the victory in command ahead of the Volvo duo of Robert Dahlgren and Tommy Rustad.

Dahlgren and Ekblom gained important points on Richard Göransson in the STCC drivers championship as the BMW-driver crashed on the first lap.

Göransson started tenth and tried to go on the inside of Viktor Hallrup in the fourth corner. The overtaking maneuver was too optimistic and Göransson hit Hallrup, resulting in a three car crash.

Hallrup hit Jan “Flash” Nilsson in front of him and as “Flash” slid across the track, Göransson hit him, sending “Flash” in to the barriers hard. “Flash” and Hallrup had to retire while Göransson could continue after a pitstop to finish 15:th.

While Ekblom and Dahlgren had relatively calm races, things were considerably hotter for Rustad in third. Mattias Andersson put hard pressure on the Volvo-driver but was unable to get past.

Jan Magnussen was once again best Danish driver in fifth ahead of Roger Eriksson. Thed Björk finished seventh after being pushed wide by Dahlgren in the first corner.

Patrik Olsson was the last driver to make it to top eight and is going to start from pole position in the second race.
