Richard Göransson “over the moon” with fourth title

Richard Göransson became historic last sunday as he became the first driver ever to win four Swedish Touring Car Championship titles.
“This is my best title ever, I am over the moon with this,” said Göransson.

Göransson was eleven points behind title rival Robert Dahlgren for the very last year.

“We had nothing to lose and I went for maximum attack. I knew deep down inside that there was a possibility, but I didn’t dare to think it was possible before the race,” said Göransson.

Göransson beat Dahlgren with just three points in the end and team boss Dick Jönsson-Wigroth was more than pleased.

“We have never had such a big team victory this year. We wanted to prove that we are strong as a one-car team and we succeeded. Göransson is one of the few drivers that really can bring out that extra when needed the most and that is what characterizes a champion,” said Jönsson-Wigroth.

The team is aiming to expand back to two cars next year as STCC turns Scandinavian. If Göransson is one of the drivers remains to be seen.

“The ambition is two cars in STCC next year, but we will see where we are then. It is going to be at least one car,” said Jönsson-Wigroth.
