STCC team organization proposes a “DTM-light”
The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship organization presented a modified version of the British NGTC rules as a proposal of rules to be introduced in 2012, but the STCC team organization TTA has put forward a counter proposal.
“I think we have managed to get STCC interested in the rules we have suggested,” said Jan “Flash” Nilsson in an interview with VF.se.
“Flash” says that the suggested NGTC regulations would not make that much of a difference compared to the current S2000 regulations.
“The regulations STCC AB presented does really not mean that big changes compared to what we have today,” said “Flash”.
The team organization TTA want regulations that are closer to the DTM regulations.
“Our work name for it is ‘DTM-light’, but they [DTM] use wind tunnels to develop wings and aerodynamics, costing millions of euros. Those kind of things would be taken away in our proposal for rules, but the cars would still be very fast,” said “Flash”.
“Flash” say that the current weight and power level is an issue for both S2000 and NGTC. The TTA proposal would mean lighter and more powerful cars.
“The weight is going to be the main difference, but also the engines. I would imagine that we could hit top speeds of 280-320 km/h on the Scandinavian tracks, compared to the 230 km/h of today. I want to be in fast cars and that is what I think the crowd wants to see as well,” said “Flash”.
The STCC organization has removed the previous NGTC rule proposal from the official website. A final decision on the new regulations for 2012 has not been taken yet, but is expected to be taken soon.
