MacDowall picks up 7 penalty points in a day
Chevrolet driver Alex MacDowall’s weekend went from bad to worse, as the 20-year-old picked up a seven point endorsement on his competition licence for a multitude of offences at Brands Hatch.
MacDowall picked up three points and a £1,000 fine in race one, in which he’d knocked out Matt Neal on the opening lap and then had contact with the Arena Focus of Tom Chilton on lap three. MacDowall went on to finish in fifth place, which is now his only points finish of the weekend.
The Carlisle-driver had already served a drive-through penalty in the second race for a jump-start, and now has also been given a retrospective 20 second penalty for an unconfirmed incident in race three, which drops him out of his ninth place finish. MacDowall was also endorsed a further three points for that incident.
Then to add insult to injury, MacDowall picked up one point and a £150 for arriving late at the driver’s briefing.
Under MSA rules, if a driver amasses 12 points at any one time he will receive a three month ban from racing. The points will remain on MacDowall’s licence for one year.
