Thompson heads Volvo 1-2 in Denmark

James Thompson headed a Volvo 1-2 in the first free practice session of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship premiere weekend at Jyllandsringen. Team mate Rustad was close to four tenths behind, with Chevrolet man Rickard Rydell in third, a further 0.059 seconds behind.

Mattias Andersson made it four front-wheel driven cars in the top four, with reigning champion Richard Göransson as best BMW driver in fifth position, half a second behind Thompson.

Sole Danish entry Jason Watt was sixth fastest ahead of Johan Stureson and Roger Eriksson. BMW men Jan “Flash” Nilsson and Martin Öhlin rounded off top ten.

Colin Turkington failed to make it in to top ten in 12th position and the Northern Irishman complained on a lack of grip in his BMW 320si. Another struggling driver was Volkswagen driver Fredrik Ekblom who failed to complete a full lap due to engine problems.
