Jason Bright takes BJR’s first win, as Reindler catches fire
Jason Bright took Brad Jones Racing first ever V8 Supercar win in race two at Perth, and his first since 2006, whilst team-mate Karl Reindler’s car goes up in flames in a scary start-line crash (video).
Bright had qualified on the front row for races two and three of the weekend, and overtook pole sitter Jamie Whincup to take the Brad Jones Racing team first ever win, with Jason Bargwanna rounding at a perfect result for the team with the final position on the podium, passing Craig Lowndes on the final lap.
“We have done it tough over the last couple of rounds but I knew we had the potential to win races,” said Bright.
“We really showed it today, but now we have just got to keep rolling. We have got a good grid spot this afternoon so we should be alright.”
“This one is for Jason (Richards). He’s going through a tough time and we want to do everything we can to make him happy.”
There was a crash at the start as Karl Reindler in BJR’s satellite Britek car stalled on the grid, and was collected by Paul Morris Motorsport driver Steve Owen. Reindler’s car jumped into the air and was engulfed in flames, with Reindler escaping from the car and being taken to the local hospital for precautionary checks. Both will miss race three.
Reindler suffered superficial burns to his hands and face in the 37G impact.
“I loaded the clutch up and it stalled,” said Reindler.
“I had my foot all the way down; I didn’t even release the clutch. I couldn’t get it going at all.”
“There was nothing I could do. Before I knew it I saw flames inside the car. I guess I panicked and tried to get out as quick as I could. My body’s fine, it’s just my hands.”
