Öhlin critical of Stureson’s driving style
Scandinavian Touring Car Championship newcomer Martin Öhlin was left fuming after the race two battle with championship leader Johan Stureson, a battle which resulted in Öhlin spinning and dropping down from third to tenth with just four laps left.
“I am incredibly disappointed and angry, this was my podium finish. I think Stureson saw a gap which I did not know exist and that only he saw,” said Öhlin.
WestCoast Racing team principal Dick Jönsson-Wigroth was equally upset after the incident.
“I cannot say that we belong to the supporters of Stureson right now, but what goes around comes around,” said Jönsson-Wigroth.
Stureson did not share Öhlin’s view of the incident, claiming that he had the inside line and that Öhlin had to yield, something the stewards of the race agreed with.
“I got on the inside of Martin and he turned in on me and spun,” said Stureson.
Despite the incident in race two, Öhlin left Knutstorp pleased with the start of his first ever STCC season.
“I have got the speed for the top. My transition for STCC is complete. The others have seen that I am here to play with them now,” said Öhlin.
Martin Öhlin is the sole WestCoast Racing driver of the STCC field as team mate and reigning champion Richard Göransson is out for three months after his crash in the season opener at Jyllandsringen.
“I still miss Richard a lot and I hope he is going to be back soon,” said Öhlin.
