Thompson tops Mantorp test and goes off
James Thompson set the fastest time of the morning test at Mantorp Park. But the British Volvo driver only managed to set four laps before he went off track in the Mjölby corner and had to sit out rest of the session. The car was towed back to the pits after the session without any major damage.
Rickard Rydell was second fastest, two tenths behind Thompson, saying that the balance of the car had changed a bit compared to yesterday due to the higher temperatures.
Tomas Engström impressed by setting third fastest time of the session, the independent Honda driver has had a dreadful start of the season with zero points from the first four races.
Tommy Rustad was fourth fastest ahead of Roger Eriksson. Flash Engineering drivers Colin Turkington and Jan “Flash” Nilsson were top BMW drivers in sixth and seventh.
Patrik Olsson, Alx Danielsson and Fredrik Ekblom rounded off top ten, all within six tenths from the fastest time.
Championship leader Johan Stureson only managed 14th time in the test session, most likely suffering from an engine change earlier this morning. IPS Motorsport brought in a spare engine from Denmark for this test.
Qualifying starts at 16.20 CET.
