Rydell pleased with first ever Chevrolet STCC victory
The race weekend in Gothenburg saw Rickard Rydell scoring his first victory since 2004 and Chevrolet’s first ever victory in the STCC.
“To win in Gothenburg is something special. It was a victory for the whole team and it has been some hard work for Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden, especially because we expanded to a two car team over the winter. I am really proud and happy and hope this is the first of many wins,” said Rickard Rydell.
The Swede secured pole position for the first race and won the first race in style ahead of championship rival Fredrik Ekblom.
“This time I had the margins on my side in qualifying, taking pole in yet another close session. I was a bit defensive in the first corners but then tried to build up a gap on lap one. In touched the barriers in turn three or four but I was a bit lucky as nothing happened. Then I drove as fast as the the tires permitted,” said Rydell.
Race two saw the track drenched in water with heavy rainfall drawing in over the track. Rydell started eighth after the reversed grid and gained three positions in the race to fifth, setting fastest lap on the way.
“It took some time before I could pass James Thompson but after that I was fast and could catch Tommy Rustad. Unfortunately I did not get the chance to pass, but I am really pleased with the whole weekend,” said Rydell.
