Fredrik Ekblom sets the pace at Falkenberg

Fredrik Ekblom set the fastest lap time of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship test day at Falkenberg. The Volkswagen driver lapped the track in 45.625, almost two tenths quicker than his closest rival in the form of Tommy Rustad.

James Thompson made it two Volvos in the top three, close to three tenths behind Ekblom’s time and just 0.052 seconds ahead of championship leader Rickard Rydell in fourth.

Colin Turkington was best BMW driver in fifth, leading five drivers that were covered within just 0.081 seconds. Richard Göransson claimed sixth, Patrik Olsson seventh, just one thousand of a second behind Göransson, Jan “Flash” Nilsson eighth and Johan Kristoffersson in ninth.

Roger Eriskson rounded off top ten in the SEAT León of Brovallen Design, just over six tenths from the fastest time of the day.

The session was halted twice, the first stop due to Olsson stopping on track with a broken front left suspension and the second stop due to Robin Appelqvist stopping on the track with technical problems.

STCC continues tomorrow with one further practice session and then qualifying.
