Ekblom claims close Falkenberg pole position

Fredrik Ekblom claimed pole position in a close qualifying session at Falkenberg. The Volkswagen driver headed his two championship rivals Rickard Rydell, in second, and Tommy Rustad, in third. The top three, consisting of three different manufacturers, was covered within just 0.090 seconds.

Johan Kristoffersson pulled off a surprised by claiming fourth on the grid in his first STCC race of 2011. The current Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia championship leader is driving an older version of the Volkswagen Scirocco, weighing in at 1150 kilos compared to the 1210 kilos of the newer specification Scirocco of Ekblom and Olsson.

Roger Eriksson made his strongest qualifying session of the year in fifth ahead of top BMW man and reigning champion Richard Göransson.

Patrik Olsson beat Colin Turkington to seventh with just four thousands of a second. James Thompson was first man outside Q2 in ninth ahead of Mattias Andersson and Tobias Johansson.
