James Thompson and Polestar Racing part ways
Polestar Racing and James Thompson part ways after just over half the 2011 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season.
“We have together reached the conclusion that it is best for both parts to end the cooperation at this point,” said Thompson.
The reason for the termination of the contract is differences regarding the development process of the Volvo C30.
“James’ previous results are impressive and we looked forward to take part of his vast experience and great knowledge of touring car racing. But our different philosophies on how to develop a racing car has unfortunately made it difficult to find a way forward,” said Christian Dahl, Managing Director of Volvo Polestar Racing.
Thompson had a mixed start to the STCC season and is seventh in the championship with, among other results, two podium finishes.
“James has often reached tremendous results, but Polestar’s philosophy and way of working did not suit his requirements for a racing car. We wish James the best of luck on his new assignments,” said Dahl.
Polestar Racing is going to announce a new driver shortly ahead of the coming race at Karlskoga on the 13th of August. There has been nothing said on the identity of the driver as of yet.
Thompson states that he has got a number of options for next season and that we might see him in a new team already this season.
“This gives both Polestar as a team and me as a driver the opportunity to prepare for the coming season in the best possible way. I have already got a couple of possibilities for this season that I am going to evaluate shortly,” said Thompson.
