Jason Watt aims for podium at Jyllandsringen
Jason Watt returns to the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship at Jyllandsringen this weekend. The Dane took part in the first two race weekends of the year, winning the premiere race at Jyllandsringen but struggling at Knutstorp two weeks later. The goal for this weekend is to be back at the podium.
“I heading to the race to get on the podium and it is my belief that it should be possible,” said Watt.
Watt, driving SEAT León, is currently 13th in the championship on 27 points after not having raced since Knutstorp at the beginning of May.
“We’ve serviced the car over the summer with new parts and with a good setup, I think we can do well,” said Watt.
The SEAT driver is going to face tough opposition from regular drivers like Richard Göransson, Rickard Rydell and Fredrik Ekblom, but also newcomers and returnees like fellow country man Casper Elgaard and Italians Gabriele Tarquini and Fabrizio Giovanardi.
“Depending on the weather, Jyllandsringen is a bit of a BMW track, especially if the weather gets really hot. Elgaard and Giovanardi are going to be tough if they are on form, but I was faster than both the Volvo’s and Chevrolet’s in the race last time,” said Watt.
Watt inherited the lead and the victory of the season opener as Richard Göransson crashed, a driver that Watt expects to be hard to beat this weekend.
“Göransson was of course on the way to win last time and I expect Volvo and Chevrolet to have trimmed their form. I think that a top five position would be acceptable as I haven’t driven as much as the others this year,” said Watt.
