Elgaard and Giovanardi head Honda 1-2 in Denmark
Hartmann Racing drivers Casper Elgaard and Fabrizio Giovanardi headed the first practice session of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship weekend at Jyllandsringen.
Elgaard topped the list on 1:11.444, close to four tenths faster than team mate Giovanardi. It should be noted that both of the Honda drivers only had new tyres in the session as they have not taken part in the STCC before, while the majority of the other drivers were on used tyres.
Championship leader Fredrik Ekblom was third fastest, 0.467 seconds from Elgaard’s time. Volvo duo Tommy Rustad and Gabriele Tarquini claimed the fifth and sixth fastest times of the session ahead of Roger Eriksson and reigning champion Richard Göransson.
Mattias Andersson was seventh ahead of Colin Turkington and Patrik Olsson.
There were a number of driver going off track during the session, including Rickard Rydell and Tobias Johansson. Rydell, who currently is second in the championship, only managed 12th fastest time in the session.
The session started wet and slowly dried up during the session, but more rain is forecasted for the qualifying session that starts at 16.35 CET.
