Ekblom pleased with extended championship lead
Fredrik Ekblom extended the lead in the drivers championship from five to eleven points over Rickard Rydell after the STCC weekend at Jyllandsringen in Denmark.
“I am really pleased with the result from this weekend. I came here with a lead of five points and we are going home with eleven points to the closest competitor,” said Ekblom.
The Volkswagen driver finished third in the first race while main rival Rydell retired on the first lap.
Ekblom came close to retiring from the second race as well after being involved in the massive first corner accident. But he managed to get going and could climb to tenth and the final point, despite driving without a front spoiler.
“I got trapped in and was not able to get away until they had cleared one of the other cars. Despite the things that happened in the second race, it has been a good weekend,” said Ekblom.
Volkswagen Team Biogas.se extended the championship lead in the teams championship as well with third driver Johan Kristoffersson scoring his best ever STCC result with two fourth places.
“Jyllandsringen is our hardest track. But we are still leaving for home with extended lead in both championship. Hard work pays off,” said team boss Tommy Kristoffersson.
