Rustad wins as Rydell closes in on Ekblom

Tommy Rustad claimed his second win of the season ahead of Colin Turkington and Johan Kristoffersson.
“It was a dream race, the car was as good as it can be on this track,” said Rustad.

Turkington was never able to get close enough to Rustad and finished the race three seconds behind.
“We had really good pace in the car, but Rustad was just that tenth faster. I am pleased overall with the weekend and the points haul,” said Turkington.

Kristoffersson claimed his first ever STCC podium finish and managed to fend off Volvo’s Robert Dahlgren who finished fourth, 12 seconds behind team mate and race winner Rustad.

Dahlgren was ahead of Kristoffersson initially but lost one position in a fight with Johan Stureson. Dahlgren threw his car on the inside of Stureson in the left ahead of the hairpin, resulting in contact between the two and an opportunity for Kristoffersson to get past the both.

Dahlgren tried to catch up with Kristoffersson, but had to settle for fourth ahead of Johan Stureson.

Rickard Rydell crossed the line in sixth, right ahead of championship rival Fredrik Ekblom. The better position for Rydell means that he reduces the gap to just two points ahead of the season finale at Mantorp Park in two weeks.

There was drama involved between rival teams Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden and Volkswagen Team Biogas.se as well. Michel Nykjær started right ahead of Ekblom but slowed down in the start, letting Rydell past while blocking Ekblom.

The stewards awarded Nykjær with a drive through penalty for this, dropping the Dane to 15th.

Martin Öhlin finished eighth ahead of Roger Eriksson and Patrik Olsson. Reigning champion Richard Göransson had to retire on the penultimate lap with a broken drive shaft after a strong race where he had climbed from 17th to ninth.
