Rydell: “Qualifying is the key for the title”

Rickard Rydell moved closer to title rival and championship leader Fredrik Ekblom after the STCC races at Knutstorp.
“It was a great weekend for us and we are really happy with the result,” said Rydell.

The Chevrolet driver reduced the gap to the Volkswagen rival from 11 points to just two.

“The goal was to gain points on Fredrik Ekblom and we did that. The key for the victory was the qualifying,” said Rydell, who claimed pole with just seven thousands of a second ahead of Ekblom.

The final race of the year takes place at Mantorp in two weeks, a track with long straights that favor the turbo charged Volkswagen. Rydell says that the qualifying session is going to be more decisive than ever.

“The Scirocco is going to be quick at Mantorp and, again, the qualifying is going to be very important, perhaps decisive for the championship. The season has been very close and the season end is not going to be an exception,” said Rydell.
