Nightmare weekend for Richard Göransson
The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship weekend at Knutstorp left Richard Göransson with two DNF’s and zero points, finishing off by retiring on the last lap of the second race.
“To retire on the last lap was the icing on the cake of a real shit weekend,” said Göransson.
Göransson failed to make it to Q2 in qualifying, started 12th and got involved in the start crash.
“What can I say, I can’t make my self invisible. You can’t start that far down, it is a complete chaos in the middle of the field. I just saw that it got tight and tried to stay out of it, but suddenly we crashed and parts flew,” said Göransson.
The second race saw Göransson climbing to ninth from 17th on the grid, but a broken drive shaft put an end to the WestCoast Racing driver’s race on the very last lap.
“The race was okay, the car was very hard to drive as I got a flatspot on the first lap, but I was nonetheless able to show that overtaking is possible. I think I rounded five cars on the outside of the hairpin, not that it matters much but it would at least have been nice to finish the race. To retire with a driveshaft in the second race is a sign that this was a real crap weekend from start to finish,” said Göransson.
Göransson lost one position in the championship to rival BMW driver Colin Turkington and is currently sixth in the championship with one race weekend to go.
