Colin Turkington aiming to end season on a high
Colin Turkington is aiming to end his first STCC season on a high with the season final coming up this weekend.
“I want to finish the season off strongly and I feel quite positive about the weekend,” said Turkington.
The Northern Irishman is fifth in the championship ahead of the final and has turned around a troublesome mid-point of the season with two podiums in the past two race weekends.
“I want to be on the podium again this weekend like the last two races. Also, going back to a track is much easier,” said Turkington.
Turkington raced at Mantorp Park earlier this year, but had to retire from the first race due to a first-corner accident and drove from last to 10th in the second race.
“I was unlucky to get caught up in another one’s accident. But I learned quite a bit about the track in the second race and I look forward to put all that in to practice this weekend,” said Turkington.
Qualifying for the final race of the season is more important than ever with several team bringing in extra drivers and Turkington has made it to Q2 in all qualifying sessions but one this year.
“It is going to be a tough job to be in the top eight, even tougher this weekend. I think we can do it, but like always, our best chance is in the second race. I look forward to the weekend and I think we can secure a strong result for the team, especially with Jan’s [“Flash” Nilsson] victory here in May,” said Turkington.
