STCC title still pending after protest from Volkswagen

The STCC 2011 title is still pending after a protest from Volkswagen that Rickard Rydell overtook under yellow flags in the final race of the year at Mantorp Park.

The safety car was deployed towards the end of the race as a six-pack of tyres had rolled out on track. Volkswagen driver Thed Björk immediately lifted off the power coming in to the first corner of the track and was past not only by Rydell, but also team mate Patrik Olsson and Colin Turkington.

The stewards have confirmed that they are investigating the matter and that the result of the final race still is pending, meaning that Rydell’s title is pending as well.

The Volkswagen team has confirmed that they have filed the protest about Björk being overtaken by Rydell under yellow flags.
