Volkswagen confirms Fredrik Ekblom exit

Volkswagen has confirmed just two days after the STCC 2011 final that Fredrik Ekblom is not going to be a part of their programme for 2012.
“Fredrik has meant a lot for us during these years. He has been a prominent figure for our programme and has had a great importance in testing and different concepts,” said team boss Tommy Kristoffersson.

Ekblom joined Volkswagen and Team Biogas.se in 2009, claiming third overall last season and a controversial second in the championship this season.
“I want to thank Fredrik for all his efforts during these years. It is always a pleasure to work with an experienced driver such as Ekblom both on and off the track,” said Kristoffersson.

The team is aiming to have two to four cars in STCC 2012 and the search for new drivers is on as the contract for Patrik Olsson also is ending after this season.
“It is a pleasant mission. We are constantly receiving requests as we are an attractive team with backing from one of the biggest manufacturers manufacturers in the world, Volkswagen, and E.ON is also going to be a part of it next year,” said Kristoffersson.
