New footage from Volkswagen could cost Rydell title

Volkswagen team Biogas.se has got hold of a video that the team claims can cost Rickard Rydell the STCC title.
“We have got in video images which prove that the pass was made under yellow flags and it has been sent to the disciplinary board,” said Volkswagen team boss Tommy Kristoffersson to SVT.

Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden team boss Nicklas Karlsson is critical of the way the Volkswagen team is handling the matter.
“They are acting like sore losers. If they want to go on with this, it is up to them. But we are not at all worried, Rydell is a worthy champion of STCC 2011,” said Karlsson.

Rydell claimed the title with just two points ahead of main rival and Volkswagen Fredrik Ekblom, who has moved to Volvo after the final. Should Rydell be penalized with just one place drop, Ekblom would become the new champion.
“I think he [Rydell] is aware that the overtaking maneuver was done under yellow flags. It is of course going to taste bitter for him if he knows that he has not deserved it [the title] in an honest way,” said Kristoffersson.

The team had until last thursday to file the appeal to the Swedish Motorsport Federation [SBF] and it has not yet been announced when a decision will be made public.

A couple of videos has surfaced on the net, including the one of BMW team Flash Engineering, showing the incident at 6:20:

The STCC 1999 final had a similar fate with the title not being decided until several weeks after. The Volkswagen team Kristoffersson Motorsport, then running Audis, was involved then as well and came out victorious with Mattias Ekström keeping the title after a protest from Nissan team Elgh Motorsport.
