Volkswagen confirms new appeal
The STCC title is not yet decided, over four weeks after the season finale, as Volkswagen have once again decided to appeal the decision by the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation [SBF].
“We are going to go to on to get this sorted. With all due respect to the decision of the federation’s internal investigation, but now we are going to take it on to lawyers that will check and decide what is right and wrong,” said Volkswagen Team Principle Tommy Kristoffersson to Eurosport.
The previous appeal by Volkswagen was thrown out as the team had not filled out a form that was required for the appeal.
The new appeal is going to be the third one after the finale. The first went to the stewards of the race at Mantorp Park, the second one to the Discipline Committee and the third one will go to the Legal Committee of SBF.
There is a possible fourth appeal available for Volkswagen, should the third one be rejected, in the form of the Swedish National Sports Committee.
While Volkswagen are firm in their beliefs to go all the way through with the appeal process, Kristoffersson says that it is a no-win situation for everyone involved.
“I hate this and it is really tough, but it is my responsibility as sporting director. E.ON and Volkswagen are expected to be treated in a fair way and it is my responsibility to dig in to it. We just want a fair treatment. The weight of getting right or wrong is gone. There are only losers now, Team Biogas, Chevrolet, STCC and the Federation are all losers now,” said Kristoffersson.
