Rydell confident of keeping STCC title with new evidence

Rickard Rydell and Chevrolet Team Sweden are confident that they are going to keep the STCC 2011 title, despite the fact that the Discipline Committee of the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation is going to investigate the controversial overtaking maneuver of the season final again.
“I have not committed any violations. We are going to show that to the Discipline Committee,” said Rydell to TT.

Not surprisingly, Volkswagen is equally confident that the new investigation is going to give the title to them and their driver Fredrik Ekblom.
“I do of course think that this was the right decision. We were convinced that we had done everything right in our initial meeting with the stewards, they didn’t even ask the question [about handing in a written form of the appeal]. It is good that they are looking at it again, that is what we have asked for, we have put forward evidence that is clear,” said Volkswagen Team Principal Tommy Kristoffersson to Sveriges Radio.

The STCC season final is close to two months old and still without a confirmed champion with the ongoing appeals.
“I don’t think you will get a winner in this case, it is a sad case. It is frustrating that is has taken so long, it should have been decided on track before we left. But this is the way it is and we want them to look at it, we haven’t got any other comments on the matter than that,” said Kristoffersson.

Just as Volkswagen claims that they have clear evidence, Rydell and Chevrolet states that they have new evidence which speak in their favor.
“Our team has chosen not to go public with it. I think that we are most likely going to keep the title,” said Rydell.

Time is running short on the decision as the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation hosts the award ceremony next weekend for the STCC title.
“It would be good if there was a certain champion by then. That would help us avoiding a boxing match,” said Ekblom with a taste of irony.
