Title saga continues: VW appeal back to Legal Committee
Team Biogas.se’s appeal against Rickard Rydell’s Championship has for the fourth time been moved between the different committees of the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation. The matter has today been sent back again to the Legal Committee as members of the Discipline Committee have declared a conflict of interest.
The Discipline Committee originally dismissed the appeal as the Volkswagen team had not handed in the required documents within 60 minutes of the race end.
Team Biogas.se then re-appealed, which sent the matter to the Legal Committee, which in turn sent the matter back to the Discipline Committee with the steer that the matter had not been reviewed correctly.
Today, four of the six Discipline Committee members declared a conflict of interest as they stand by their original decision that the appeal was not handled properly by Team Biogas.se.
The result of the 2011 STCC has now been under investigation for more than two months, with the final confirmation of who is the Champion without question yet to be resolved.
“It is of course important that the individual’s legal rights are safe-guarded in a proper manner. But there are a number of circumstances that have made the case go back and forth between our legal authorities and that is not acceptable. We are going to sit down as soon as possible with both committees and make sure that this does not happen again,” said Kåge Schildt, Federal Chairman of the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation.
It should be noted that the decision taken by the Legal Committee can be appealed once again, to the National Sports Committee, but the chances are slim of them taking up the matter.
