Ben Edwards leaves BTCC commentary role after 10 years
Ben Edwards will leave his position as lead commentator for the British Touring Car Championship in 2012 to take up the role of lead commentator for the BBC’s coverage of Formula 1.
Edwards has been the principal commentator of the UK’s second-most viewed motorsport series since 2002, when the BTCC first moved across to ITV from the BBC, when it was previously called by ex-BTCC racer Charlie Cox and John Watson; the latter was also associated with Edwards through their commentary of Formula 1 for Eurosport and the short-lived F1 Digital channel.
In addition to his BTCC duties, Edwards has also been commentating recently on live international motorsport, most recently on several rounds of the FIA GT1 World Championship – as well as for the Formula 1 season review releases for Formula One Management.
Edwards replaces Martin Brundle on the BBC’s line-up who is moving across to Sky. Edwards will be joined by former Formula 1 driver and current DTM racer David Coulthard in the booth.
