Revised qualifying format for STCC 2012
The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship organisers has revised the qualifying format for the 2012 season. The race one grid is going to be decided through a 20 minute qualifying session while the race two grid gets decided through a 10 minute session for the top eight drivers of Q1.
The previous qualifying format had a reversed grid in the second race based upon the finishing positions from race one.
“With the previous regulations a driver could be forced to retire from the first race and get a poor grid position for the second race, ruining the entire weekend. Now the drivers can take bigger risks in the first race without risking a good start position in the second race. This is going to provide better racing in both heats,” said Bob Huzell, MD for STCC AB.
Q1 – 20 minutes – Decides the grid for race one
Q1 – 10 minutes – Decides the grid of top eight for race two, positions nine and further down on the grid is the same as for race one
