Gothenburg ends contract with STCC

The Gothenburg street circuit round of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship is unlikely to take place, with the organisers of the event terminating their contract with the series. The circuit will instead only host two rounds of the rival TTA Elite Racing League in 2012.

The track has hosted rounds of the STCC since 2008, but with the termination of the contract by the circuit promoter, the STCC’s round on June 2nd will be cancelled, reducing the series calendar to eight events.

“The owner of the track, which is also a major shareholder in the TTA, which is our opponent series, has decided to terminate our contract,” said STCC Managing Director Bob Huzell to Sveriges Radio.

“It seems clear that the background to the dismissal is the competitive situation that has arisen between STCC and the TTA and the fact that the track is currently owned by one of the partners to the TTA. It is extremely regrettable the failure to meet contractual agreements and take these kinds of methods.”

Gothenburg is still scheduled to host both the third and the final rounds of this year’s TTA Elite Racing League.

“The arena has had four good years with STCC, but now we want to focus on TTA – Elite Racing League. The most successful drivers, the biggest teams and the long-term investing car importers are in the TTA. We are investing to further develop the arena and it is our choice to focus on TTA as a strong actor,” said Thomas Lindskog, Managing Director of Gothenburg City Race Arena.
