Plato and Collard penalised for infractions at Brands

Championship leader Jason Plato and race one winner Rob Collard have been fined and given three point endorsements on their racing licences after incidents today at Brands Hatch.

Jason Plato had a successful first meeting with the brand new MG6 GT of Triple Eight Race Engineering, taking fourth place in race one, third in race two and taking victory in the final race of the day to leave Brands Hatch, a known favourite track of the two-time BTCC champion, with the lead of the Championship, just as he did last year when driving for Chevrolet.

However, after a collision in race one with Team ES Racing’s Dave Newsham at Paddock Hill bend whilst the two were fighting for the lead, with Newsham ending up off the circuit and out of the race, the stewards decided to punish Plato with a £750 fine for the incident and endorse his racing licence with three points, a similar penalty was handed to West Surrey Racing’s Rob Collard who receive a lesser £500 fine and three points on his licence.

Neither of the fines affects either drivers points position after Brands Hatch, heading to the next round at Donington Park in two weeks.
